One of the things I love about living here in Asheville is all the wonderful activities for our kids. Hiking to your favorite waterfall on a Saturday is the best way to share family time. But even when the weather is too cold for a hike there is still plenty to do here.
The Health Adventure at Pack Square is hours of fun and discovery. You will be as fascinated as your children by all the hands on activities and education. From life size three dimensional puzzles of the body, to perceptual tricks and flexibility tests, it has something for all ages. Your younger children can be the grocer in their own store, while they learn about healthy choices. The Health Adventure also features ever changing exhibits upstairs, check the schedule for current Health Adventure exhibits.
Also located at Pack Square is the Colburn Earth Science Museum for our early geologists. There are over 4000 pieces in the Mineral collection including an amethyst crystal cluster, green fluorite and ruby. The gem collection includes a 220 carat blue topaz from Brazil. You can also learn about the gems found in our region with historic mining photographs, and gems found all over North Carolina. Continue your hands-on learning experience with the fun interactive weather exhibit.
The Nature Center is open year-round with as many indoor exhibits as outdoor exhibits, so don’t let the rain keep you away. The snake exhibits will creep your crawlies, but more importantly help you and your children understand and recognize the difference between friendly snakes and dangerous ones local to our area. Check out the brown recluse and black widow spiders as you explore all sorts of other animals.
But wait there
