2. This is the final weekend to enjoy the Mountain State Fair at the WNC Agricultural Center in Fletcher. Gates open at 9 a.m. today through Sunday, and admission is $8, $4 for ages 6-12 and 65 and older. Ride ticket packages are available. For details, visit www.mountainfair.org.

3. Chimney Rock’s solar-powered Music on the Mountain concert will feature Johnson’s Crossroad and Joe Hallock and the Flat Creek Stringband from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday in the park’s Meadows. The concert will be powered with the sun by Solar Powered Sound using a mobile solar electric system custom designed by musician and solar energy expert Hallock. Johnson’s Crossroad from Asheville blends blues, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass and Appalachian old-time music. Hallock and the Flat Creek Stringband explore old-time Appalachian music while drawing on flavors of Celtic, Caribbean and American cultures.
