In the spirit of giving back, more than 100 bikers took the spirit of Christmas to dozens of children Saturday.
Even though the weather may have deterred some from riding their motorcycles, the Dixie Thunder-Aiken of ABATE of South Carolina braved the dreary weather and held its annual Toy Run benefiting Helping Hands. Helping Hands is a nonprofit providing shelter and more to abused or neglected children.
John Enochs, founder and president of South Carolina Misfits MC, once was one of those children.
“I love to give back to them because they gave to me when I didn’t have a place to live,” Enochs said. “I grew up in a hard place where there were drugs and loss of everything on my side of the family. Just like any other kid, you need a place to be you. Helping Hands helped me and a lot of us; they put a big impact on my life and made me who I am today.”
The Aiken chapter and other bikers from the CSRA area assemble in the Clearwater Shopping Center each year before receiving an escort from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and
