Downtown Aiken will be bustling with thousands of residents and tourists this weekend all for the 37th annual Aiken’s Makin’.
The free two-day arts and crafts festival starts on Park Avenue at 9 a.m. today and ends at 5 p.m. Saturday. Local food vendors, craft and art exhibits as well as family entertainment will be available for all ages.
There will be more than 70 different vendors, with about 30 percent being new to the festival, according to John McMichael, co-chair for Aiken’s Makin’. Art vendors include Allen’s Gem Rocks, Paul’s Pens and Pitter Patter Prints. Food vendors include Aiken’s Bruster’s Ice Cream, The Willcox and Windows on the Green. Dumpster Depot will also be located throughout the festival, cleaning up all the event’s recyclables.
The Aiken Chamber will hold its annual People’s Parade today at 8:45 a.m. located in front of Newberry Hall to welcome visitors and vendors.
Performances throughout the festival located on York and Union streets will be free and open to the public.
