The Haitian boys dance troupe, the Resurrection Dance Theater, will be performing at the Orange Peel on January 8, 2011. From the St. Joseph’s Home from Boys, which was destroyed in the earthquake, they are here to raise funds to rebuild their home.
The YMI Cultural Center and Asheville Youth Mission teamed up to bring them to Asheville. The Resurrection Dance Theater has performed all over the world.
The St. Joseph Home for Boys was started in 1985 by a missionary who had worked with Mother Teresa. He brought boys that had been living on the streets, and encouraged them to express themselves through dance and skits. The Resurrection Dance Theater is an outgrowth of that initial expression.
